Instead of a stereotypical female, in the new mascot costume a stereotypical male comes along with wings and a snarling face. The mascot, "Macho Man," is replacing the previous Hooters mascot, which was an older woman in a bathing suit. The mascot costume is being worn by Maddy Lair of Phoenix, Arizona, and it's designed to make a comeback at an upcoming Hooters marathon. Hooters is a restaurant chain founded in 1983 by a group of five men who wanted to "attract a different demographic of women." Over time, the chain has become popular in locations across the country. Hooters has over 800 locations across the U.S. Hooters has recently started to expand into areas with a high concentration of military personnel and people of military heritage. The new mascot costume was first introduced at a charity marathon in San Antonio, Texas. The mascot, Maddy, has been a hit with employees at Hooters locations, and the rest of the world. According to the mascot's facebook page, Maddy was selected because of her "masculine good looks and playfulness." The purpose of the new mascot is to "raise money for breast cancer awareness" and "help take a stand against breast cancer." © 2010 CBS Interactive Inc. All rights reserved.
